On August 12, 1978, Ms.SOGA Hitomi, 19 and her mother Ms.SOGA Miyoshi, 46, were abducted by North Korean agents in Sado-city Niigata Prefecture. |

| In Japan-North Korean summit meeting, North Korea acknowledged that its agents had kidnapped Japanese citizens. It also has been revealed that Mr.HASUIKE Kaoru, Ms.HASUIKE Yukiko (maiden name was OKUDO), and Ms.SOGA Hitomi are alive in North Korea and on October 15, 2002, those 3 surviving abductees returned to Japan. However, the whereabouts of Ms.YOKOTA Megumi and Ms.SOGA Miyoshi are still unknown. | ||||||||||||||||
